Rocksound is kind of self explanatory in regards of the music genre it appeals to, as it says in the title of the magazine “ROCK”sound. The magazine covers articles on many different “rock” bands. However, rock as a genre is extremely widespread and can vary from Folk rock to Metal or Screamo, each month the main focus can vary on different genres of music, but it’s for people who like all genres inside rock. The front cover appeals to the rock genre with the front man of the band “Gaslight Anthem” with crossed arms showing off his tattoos. Tattoos are stereotypically associated with musicians/ rock stars and it really fits the target audience of the magazine. There are a lot of black, red and white colours which suite the Rock genre as well as everything else that is included on the whole front cover, like free posters of bands and the chance to win free tickets to a rock festival.
The target audience of the magazine would be teenagers to young adults who are into rock music; the colours would appeal to this target audience as it is very rock and roll. With colours such as red and yellow, they stand out more than all the other colours which would mean that they are eye catching and would make it stand out of the crowd, making it more noticeable on the shelf and also appealing to the younger audience.
The fonts are simple, with a few jagged edges and slanted images, fitting in with the rocky style and it makes you feel indulged by the rock genre and it also makes you feel as if you are involved with the industry. Some people use magazines as a way to escape the real world and to fantasize about being a musician, it is a way to use escapism as a way to enjoy what you a reading.
